FIFA Final 2022: Neck To Neck Competition Between Argentina and France
What a victory it was for Argentina—truly, it was the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. It was one of the most exciting and dramatic matches in the history of the tournament, and this match was indeed a nail-biter up until Gonzalo Montiel of Argentina's final penalty kick. After 36 years, Argentina's captain and star player Lionel Messi finally claimed the FIFA world cup championship as he lifted the trophy on behalf of his country.
For those who missed it, here are the Final's highlights.
Lionel Messi scored the game's opening goal from the penalty spot after just 23 minutes of play, and Angel Di Maria added a second goal in the 36th, giving Argentina a comfortable 2-0 lead. When it appeared that Argentina had the game under control, events took a dramatic turn when France was awarded a penalty for a foul similar to how Argentina started the game. In the 80th minute, Kylian Mbappe scored France's first goal to give them a chance. Then, only a few seconds later, the football player scored another goal for his side to tie the game at 81.
Now for Argentina, all the dominance and confidence was dashed that
it had for the 80 minutes of the match. But how Argentina would give up so
easily! Following this Lionel Messi scored another goal in the 108th
minute. At that moment, it was definitely gonna be Argentina,na but France had
different plans when Kylian Mbappe came in for a hat-trick and scored his third
goal of the night in the 118th minute.
Now the score was 3-3
It was time for penalties now, First came
France’s Kylian Mbappe, and he scored! Then it was Lionel Messi’s turn, and he
scored for Argentina too! The match ended with Gonzalo Montiel scoring the
winning goal, as Argentina scored four of the four shots, while France scored
only two.
After winning the competition a third time,
Argentina became the fourth most prosperous country in FIFA Men's World Cup
